Scrambling wadi rum

Scrambling is a type of hiking that involves steep passages where you have to use your feet and hands. Unlike climbing, you don’t need any special equipment to climb the trails. The Wadi Rum desert offers a vast choice of paths leading to the peaks or across the rocky mountains, some easily accessible to almost everyone, others more complicated. These “scrambles” can be added to any programme. We just ask for a small supplement to the initial fee.

Jebel Hash

This group of peaks is located in the south-eastern part of the Wadi Rum desert. From the eastern side of Wadi Nughra, many paths lead to the summit from where you can reach other high points and enjoy incredible views over much of the desert and also over the first row of mountains in Saudi Arabia.

Burdah Arch

A 3.5 km long mountain with a large arch. This climb requires some climbing skills as several passages are level 3 and quite vertiginous. At the top, the view over the desert is breathtaking. It is possible to walk on the arch itself, which is only 2 or 3 metres wide.

Jebel um e'ddami

The highest peak in Jordan (1865 metres) This mountain is on the border of Wadi Rum, past the south-eastern end of the desert. It is quite a long way to reach the bottom of the mountain and start the ascent. From the top you will have a 360 degree panoramic view of the desert, the Saudi mountains and, if the weather is clear, you can even see the Red Sea !

Canyon Rakabat

Crossing Jebel Um Ushrin, this narrow path starts at Rum Village and joins the other side of the mountain, behind a high sand dune (quite close to the very famous Red Sand Dune). The route is exclusively rocky and there are a few moments that will be difficult if you suffer from vertigo. This hike can be done at the beginning of your stay or before returning to the village.

 Verified Beautiful trip in the desert
Just got back from a wonderful trip with my boyfriend. We stayed 2 days and 2 nights in the Wadi Rum desert, and we have no words to express how wonderful it was ! We were able to hike and climb in the desert with our guide Abdallah, an amazing climber.  Verified The real Wadi Rum experience
I spent one day in Wadi Rum. As soon as I arrived Atallah brought me to see the sunset, and then we went to a cavity in a rock in the middle of Wadi Rum where we could warm up by the fire, talk with the other tourists and enjoy a typical bedouin meal. Then we gazed at the stars and finally went to sleep. They provided us blankets warm enough to have a comfortable sleep even in the January cold. In the morning I went to see the sunrise and, after breakfast (again in the itinerant bivouac where we slept), I started a day tour to see the most interesting spots of the desert. The driver / guide cooked another typical lunch for me on a campfire in an isolated point pf the desert. Finally I was brought back to the village. This experience was different from the camps / bubbles as you get something closer to what a bedouin really does when he lives in the desert. Abdullah and his brother Atallah try to focus on respecting the Wadi Rum by avoiding those large structures built by the camps that unfortunately you can see in the desert. It is a little sad to see futuristic luxury bubbles in the middle of the wonderful nature of the desert. What Abdullah and Atallah offer is the authentic bedouin experience in the respect of the nature.

 Verified Wonderful experience with Wadi rum Jordan guide
Hello everybody First of all, I would like to reassure all travelers who are wondering if Jordan is safe due to the conflict between Palestine and Israel. You have nothing to worry about, I have been in the country for 10 days and everything is going very well here. There is no tension, the Jordanians are really adorable, don't cancel your trip that would be a shame. I have just left the desert after 2 days and 2 nights with Attalah and her family. It was an incredible experience. I didn't see the time passing, I could have stayed a few more days without any problem. My guide was very nice, funny and above all professional during the treks in the desert. The landscapes are incredible, I still can’t believe it. The meals cooked by our guides were all excellent. Regarding the bivouac, what an experience!!! The meal, the camp, the stars were magnificent. Our guide played us a piece a le ud a traditional instrument.  Verified Un séjour inoubliable
Je n’ai pas l’habitude de laisser de commentaires mais je tenais ici à remercier Attalah pour l’organisation de ce voyage incroyable : ce fut certainement la plus belle expérience de ma vie. Tout y était : des paysages à couper le souffle, une organisation au top et un dépaysement total. Si Attalah est le chef d’orchestre qui permet de rendre ce voyage féérique, je veux aussi remercier nos deux guide bédouins qui ont rendu ce voyage encore plus magique. Sanad et Bendar nous ont beaucoup fait rire, ont été très dynamiques et ont organisé de super randonnées dans les canyons. En plus, les repas préparés maison étaient délicieux ! Et quel bonheur de s’endormir sous les étoiles, dans un campement confortable après avoir écouté les douces notes de luth jouées par les bédouins… On n’aurait pas pu rêver mieux !

Nous voulons vous dire à quel point nous avons adoré nos 48 heures dans le désert. Tout était fantastique : le désert bien sûr ! Mais aussi l'accueil d'Hassan et de son fils Sultan qui ont été vraiment super. Les promenades étaient agréables et la nourriture authentique était délicieuse.
